A Fresh Start

New year, new you: we’ve heard it all before. We’ve made and broken resolutions to get fit, lose weight and eat better. We’ve signed up for gym memberships, attended yoga classes and bought inspirational activewear time and time again only to see the positive commitment to health and wellbeing fall off the wagon long before the winter months.

Make 2016 the year you commit to a healthier lifestyle. Not just to look good, but to feel great.

Eat better.

Did you know there’s no such thing as actually “going on a diet”? Your diet is simply what you eat, not a thing that you go on or off of. Yes there are diets that are better or worse than others, and yes we are all probably wearing the strain of a little extra Christmas indulgence, but it’s not too late to change it!

My take on food is that I love all of it so why should I take my love away from myself? Too much of anything (yes, even chocolate) is not a good thing, so limit your intake, but never eliminate.

Trying to limit your carb intake but can’t bring yourself to reduce your weekly bowl of spag bol (AKA the story of my life)? Try substituting traditional spaghetti with zucchini noodles, and make them yourself from home with the Inspiralizer. Train better.

Try to find a form of exercise that you enjoy rather than resent and incorporate it into your everyday life. Catch public transport to work? Jump off a stop or two early and walk the rest of the way. Spare time on your lunch break? Go for a walk around the block. Need to pick up some groceries? Ride to the store and carry them home in a backpack or basket.

Exercise is all about finding a healthy balance that doesn’t disrupt your day to day lifestyle. If it is something that you enjoy or even look forward to, you are more likely to keep it up. Don’t sign up to a gym if you hate going in the hope that you will miraculously find a love for treadmills – just take it outside!

Think better.

A healthy attitude makes half the difference so commit to being positive for 2016.

Sleep better.

Isn’t it time we all caught some Zs. I don’t know about you, but I’m always tired, and I’m always complaining about being tired and then doing nothing about it. Start working on a better sleeping pattern and you will improve your outlook on life tenfold*. Remove electronics from the bedroom: no screens should follow you to bed so switch off, close the email tab and leave the scrolling for the morning. Get yourself into a routine that you can sustain both on weekdays and weekends.

Don’t wait until you’re about to drop from exhaustion, do something about it now!
